Is the M.A.C Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Oh, Darling worth it?

As many of you know, the M.A.C Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Oh, Darling is a limited edition Holiday collection highlighter that has been all over Instagram. People are going crazy over this thing! I bought mine the day it launched in Australia (2nd Nov) and I’ve been told that they are currently sold out nation-wide in Australia. They retail for AU$51 each which is $3 more than the original Mineral Skinfinishes and they are packaged in the older style Skinfinish packaging in bright, metallic blue colour. The product itself has a very unique embossing on it, and I think it’s also part of the reason why people are going crazy over this highlighter.

Now, the product itself is very metallic and it’s the perfect golden shade if you’re someone who’s into the JLo glow, or that ‘highlight on fleek’ sort of thing. It gives off a very intense highlight effect so it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. I’m the type of person who likes extreme highlights on my face but definitely only on certain occasions and not for a day-to-day basis. If you missed out on this highlighter, it’s definitely not a very big deal. The texture of this highlighter is very similar to a metallic eyeshadow consistency. Below are the swatches of the highlighter.

Left to right: Urban Decay eyeshadow in Half Baked (available in Naked 1 and 2 palettes), M.A.C Extra Dimension Skinfinish in Oh, Darling, Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone.

I’ve compared some swatches of the M.A.C highlighter to other similar shades. As I have mentioned previously, it’s not too much of a big deal if you have missed out on this product as there are definitely some alternatives out there. The Urban Decay Half Baked is a very close match to the highlighter, although I wouldn’t call them dupes. The Urban Decay eyeshadow has slightly more fallouts and is more bronzy in colour compared to the M.A.C highlighter. I wouldn’t say I regret purchasing it, but I am glad I did not purchase back ups because I don’t think it’s worth re-purchasing.

Thank you for reading! xx
